Handing over your belongings to a moving company takes trust. Unfortunately there are dubious players on the market, so it pays to do a quick check before booking. Here are the most important things to look at to find a safe and serious moving company.
Check the company
Make sure the company has F-tax approval and is registered – you can check this with the Tax Agency and the business register. A serious company also has valid liability and transport insurance covering your belongings during the move, plus a traffic permit for professional transport.
A collective agreement is a good sign that staff have fair terms and that the company takes responsibility. It also reduces the risk that you indirectly support undeclared work.
Read reviews and ask for references
Look up ratings on Google, Reco or similar. Look for a pattern rather than individual comments. A company with many consistent, high ratings over time is a safer partner than one with no trace online at all.
Request a written quote with a fixed price
Always ask for a written quote that clearly states what is included – moving van, fuel, insurance, number of movers and any add-ons. A fixed price protects you against hidden fees. Be sceptical of prices that seem too good to be true; they often lack insurance or rely on hourly billing that runs away.
Warning signs to avoid
Beware of companies that only want cash payment, have no company registration number, cannot show insurance or pressure you to book straight away. A serious moving company is transparent, answers your questions and lets you make your decision calmly.
